The Olympia Police Department responded to a total 1,103 calls for service this week.
The department remarked upon the following notable trends:
- One aggravated assault reported this week. The suspect threw a glass at the victim, causing a cut to the head. The victim was later arrested for obstruction and disorderly conduct after trying to start fights.
- Two auto thefts reported with both vehicles recovered. In one case, the victim saw the suspect in her car. As officers arrived, the suspect started driving it through the woods before eventually hitting a tree and getting it stuck. She was arrested as she walked away from the car. In the other case, the car was recovered before it was reported stolen.
- One robbery reported. A juvenile stole alcohol and kneed and pushed employees trying to stop the shoplift. He was located nearby and arrested.
- Six residential burglaries reported with one still an open investigation. One was referred to the prosecutor for a possible violation of no contact order. Two cases were from a shed and garage where bikes, paddle boards, tools and electronics were stolen. In another case, the victim called 911 after seeing a stranger in her driveway when she returned home. Officers found him hiding in the victim’s trash can and found evidence that he’d entered the victim’s sunroom. In the last case, the suspect shattered a glass back door for entry and stole a firearm from a safe and the victim’s social security guard. An auto theft suspect was arrested in another county and had the victim’s gun on them, as well as personal documents from other victims.
- Twelve vehicle prowls reported. Property stolen includes multiple wallets and purses, keys, cell phones, military supplies and clothing.
