Posted

The Olympia Police Department responded to a total of 2,166 calls for service over the last two weeks.

The department remarked upon the following notable trends:

  • One arson was reported where two trash bins were set on fire near a car. Officers contacted the owner of the car, who moved it before the fire spread to it.
  • Six aggravated assaults were reported during the two-week period. Two are open investigations. Officers arrested suspects in three cases. In one arrest, the suspect struck the victim with his vehicle multiple times causing injury. In another arrest, the suspect smothered the victim into a chair, putting pressure on her neck. In the third arrest, the suspect pointed a firearm at the victim twice during an argument. Officers located the suspect at his home and arrested him without further incident. In the last case, the suspect drew a gun on the victim as he approached after a collision, then left the scene.
  • Three rapes were reported. Two are open investigations where the victims know the suspect. The other case was referred to another agency.
  • Two robberies were reported during the last two weeks, one an open investigation and one resulting in arrest. In the arrest, the two suspects were also arrested for residential burglary. They entered an apartment armed with a knife and hatchet and assaulted the victim. They then fought with other people at the home while trying to steal electronics and an e-bike.
  • There were four other residential burglaries with arrests in three of the cases. Two men were arrested after witnesses saw them in their neighbor’s house. There was evidence they’d been living there after prying a kitchen window for entry. In another arrest, the victim was across the street from his home and heard a window shatter. He found the suspect inside his living room, who then tried to leave the scene. The victim made him stay until officers arrived. In the last arrest, the suspect moved a garbage bin under a window and removed the screen for entry. The victim returned home to find her inside. Officers located her nearby wearing one of the victim’s sweatshirts.
