Olympia shakes off tough first set, defeats South Kitsap in four

The Olympia volleyball team needed a set to warm up before backdoor sweeping South Kitsap at home Wednesday night for its first South Puget Sound League win of the season.

After falling in the first set 25-15, the Bears flipped the script and won 25-19, 25-18, 25-15, over the final three frames.

“The Bears did a great job of turning it around after set one. We didn’t do the things we talked about in set one,” Olympia head coach Christie Oldright said. “Between sets, we made a commitment to make a change, specifically with the things we can control. I’m very proud of them.”

University of Washington commit Stella Sheeran recorded 13 kills, nine digs and three aces, while Anna Johnston was all over the court with 20 assists and nine kills. McKenzie Madill added 25 assists, and Claire Jacobs contributed 11 kills. Netty Obungu was once again effective in the front row with six kills and six blocks.

Olympia (3-4, 1-1 South Puget Sound League) will head up north next week to face a tough Graham-Kapowsin (6-1, 2-0 SPSL) team Tuesday, Sept. 29.
