Olympia’s bats go cold in loss to Emerald Ridge

The Olympia baseball team had no answer for Emerald Ridge pitcher Jackson Dion, who struck out 13 batters over seven one-hit innings as the Bears fell to the Jaguars 4-0 in Puyallup Friday.

Olympia now sits on the outside looking into the top of the South Puget Sound League standings, falling to third place while Sumner and Emerald Ridge are tied for first.

The Jaguars strung together three hits in the third inning off of Landyn Keister, two of which brought home a run. Olympia’s best shot at chipping away at the 2-0 deficit came in the fourth inning as Sawyer Dean walked and Elijah Butler delivered the Bears’ first hit. But the Jaguars’ defense turned the final two outs to strand two runners.

Emerald Ridge registered another run in the fifth and one in the sixth, while Dion continued to breeze through the Bears lineup.

Olympia (15-4, 11-4 SPSL) has just two games remaining in the regular season, first at home against crosstown rival Capital (6-10, 6-7 Puget Sound League) Saturday afternoon before its senior day against Rogers (6-12, 4-11 SPSL) Tuesday, April 28.
