Interstate 5 travelers should plan extra time for overnight trips between Maytown and Grand Mound in Thurston County, according to the Washington state Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
From Monday, Aug. 24, to Friday, Aug. 28, contractor crews working for the WSDOT will reduce both directions of I-5 to one lane overnight.
Lane closure times:
• 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday
• 9 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday
• 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday
On the night of Monday Aug. 24, crews planned to work between the Maytown Road on-ramp to southbound I-5 and the Maytown rest area.
From Tuesday, Aug. 25, to Friday, Aug. 28, crews will start on northbound I-5 near Grand Mound and work toward Maytown. Once northbound I-5 is complete, crews will work in the southbound direction.
The mobile lane closures may require at least two rolling slowdowns each night to move lane closure locations. WSDOT warns residents not to pass vehicles slowing traffic.
This work is connected to an I-5 preservation project. Crews will pave and install traffic loops along sections of the roadway. Traffic loops are used to detect congestion along state highways.
Construction schedules are affected by weather and subject to change.
