Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia announced this week that, following a comprehensive review process, its Pediatric Inpatient Unit will remain open and continue to serve the South Puget Sound community.
Over the past several months, St. Peter Hospital leadership has prioritized transparency and open communication, while exploring all possible options for the Pediatric Inpatient Unit’s future operational structure, according to a news release from the health care provider.
This approach fostered valuable opportunities for input from staff, families and community members, which shaped the outcome of this decision, according to the news release from St. Peter Hospital.
The Providence St. Peter Hospital Emergency Department will continue to provide 24/7 pediatric emergency services, staffed by Seattle Children’s pediatric hospitalists.
“St. Peter is fortunate to have Seattle Children’s pediatric specialists helping it care for pediatric patients, ensuring children can receive care close to home,” the release stated.
When specialized care is necessary, St. Peter will coordinate with partner hospitals to ensure seamless transfers for patients and families.
“We appreciate the thorough and thoughtful review that led us to this decision as our health care landscape is changing rapidly. We hope that when choosing where your child will receive care, you will consider high-quality options close to home. Our commitment to our community remains strong,” Providence Swedish South Puget Sound Chief Executive Darin Goss said.
