The Rainier girls basketball team lost a home matchup against White River on Wednesday, falling 69-31.
Rainier’s best offensive quarter came in the first, when it scored 14 points, but it struggled the rest of the way with just 17 across the final three frames.
White River scored 24 in the first to build an early lead, and another 24-spot in the third put the game out of reach.
Lexi Beckman led the Mountaineers with seven points, Alexis Myers and Zaylee Bravo both scored six, and Kaylee Bravo added five. Anika Plowman tallied four, and Katelyn Eckroth logged three.
Despite the final scoreline, Rainier coach Jordan Hunt acknowledged that it was against a great 3A team, and the progress from the meeting against White River in the summer had him echoing the sentiment of a certain NBA MVP in Philadelphia.
“We are trusting the process,” Hunt said. “Really proud of the growth of this team,” Hunt said. “This summer, we couldn’t even get the ball across the court against them. Now we love these kinds of games. Everything is about growth.”
Rainier (6-8, 0-3 C2BL) will be at home again on Thursday to host Morton-White Pass.
