The Rainier girls basketball team battled against Seton Catholic in Vancouver on Tuesday, but the Mountaineers ultimately fell 45-37.

“Another step in the right direction tonight,” Rainier coach Jordan Hunt said. “We battled a top ten 1A team and had chances late to steal it. The girls fought every second and I could not be more proud of their effort. The belief in this locker room is growing. Long ways to go, but we know where we are headed.”

Rainier trailed by eight at halftime and scored 16 in the third to remain within striking distance.

Alexis Myers led the Mountaineers in scoring with nine points, but Lexi Beckman wasn’t far behind with eight and Katelyn Eckroth and Kaysen Bravo both added seven.

Seton Catholic was led by Riley Seymer and Emma Whitehouse, who combined for 30.

Rainier (1-1) will head to Onalaska for a non-league matchup on Thursday.
