The Rainier boys basketball team avenged its Dec. 11, 2025, loss to Toutle Lake in which it lost a late double-digit lead by pushing past the Ducks 59-44 at home Saturday night.
A five-point halftime lead for the Mountaineers turned into a 12-point advantage heading to the final frame. Rainier outscored Toutle Lake 29-19 in the second half, and the Mountaineers held star Ducks forward Easton White to 13 points after he put up 33 against Rainier in the first matchup.
Jacob Hanson was an enforcer for the Mountaineers with 20 points. Peyton Sheaffer added 13 points, Ryder Martin scored 11, and Jordan Pringle logged eight.
“It’s awesome to see our competitive character, playing the right way, focusing on growth and not the outcome,” Rainier head coach Ben Sheaffer said. “A few things that really stood out tonight were our ball movement, our post defense and our rebounding.”
A big week is on the horizon for Rainier (8-6, 6-5 Central 2B League), as the Mountaineers will look to shake up the Central 2B League standings when they visit Adna (12-2, 10-0 C2BL) on Wednesday and Napavine (11-3, 8-2 C2BL) on Friday.
