The Rainier girls basketball team ran into a buzzsaw Saturday, as the three-time reigning 1B state champion Neah Bay blew out the Mountaineers 69-39 in Rainier.
After a close first quarter that concluded with Neah Bay up by 6, the Red Devils pulled away with a 15-point halftime lead and then led 24 after three. Neah Bay outscored Rainier by at least six in every quarter and by nine in both the second and third quarters.
“That’s a state championship program, and that is where we want to be,” Rainier head coach Jordan Hunt said. “Glad to go against a team that will make us stronger and grow together.”
Kaysen Bravo scored a team-high 13 points, and Lexi Beckman added 12. Alexis Myers tallied five, Felicity McKitrick logged four, Courtney Eckroth provided a 3-pointer in the first quarter, and Anika Plowman scored two.
Rainier (7-9, 1-3 Central 2B League) has lost four of its last five and gets another big test on the road against Napavine (13-4, 4-0 C2BL) Tuesday night.
