The River Ridge boys soccer team earned a 2-2 tie with Black Hills Monday night at South Sound Stadium.
Black Hills senior Ethan Badger opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the box in the 16th minute, and the Hawks responded as Landon Lucania tapped in a corner kick in the 25th minute to tie the game.
In the 39th minute, Badger stole a pass on River Ridge’s side of the pitch and scored his second goal of the game to take a 2-1 halftime lead. Three minutes into the second half, freshman Alberth Perete-Delgadillo sent a laser kick from about 10 yards out into the back of the goal above the keeper’s reach to knot the score at 2-2.
“I’m proud of how the team competed to the very end again. This is the first game where we had more shots than the other team, which shows that we have made some progress in the attacking phase,” River Ridge head coach Daniel Arevalo said. “When we trust the game plan and when we believe in each other, we show that we can compete and play some really good soccer.”
River Ridge’s (0-2-1) schedule is challenging over the next two weeks, facing three teams that qualified for the 3A state tournament last spring in Bellarmine at home on Friday and Central Kitsap and Gig Harbor next week.
“Starting Friday night, we are going to need to trust each other, the game plan, and play with courage because when we do that, we give ourselves a chance,” Arevalo said.
