River Ridge run-rules Silas

Offensive production wasn’t accomplished in an orthodox fashion, but the River Ridge softball team earned a 12-2 run-rule victory over Silas Monday.

The Hawks scored 12 runs on just five hits, but they walked eight times, were hit by six pitches, and were aided by eight Silas errors.

Raylie Birklid was efficient in the circle, striking out seven Rams in five innings and allowing two runs on two hits and two walks. She needed just 70 pitches to work through the Silas batters, as she held the Rams without a hit until there were two outs in the third inning. Birklid also drilled an RBI double off the left field fence as part of her 2-for-4 day at the plate.

River Ridge scored four runs in the first inning without needing a hit, and none of the three runs delivered in the second inning were via a hit, either. Lux’iolani Batacan impressed, going 2 for 2 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored.

“We didn’t hit the ball well. We still have to shore up our simple plays and our fundamental baserunning,” River Ridge head coach Danny Greene said. “Other than that, good performance. We’ll take it any way we can get it.”

River Ridge (5-7, 5-5 Puget Sound League) now gets a tough test at Timberline (10-2, 10-0 PSL) Wednesday afternoon.
