River Ridge snaps scoring drought in loss to Lakes

The River Ridge boys soccer team scored its first goal in nearly a month, but the Hawks fell to Lakes Friday night as the Lancers scored two goals in the final five minutes to break a tie.

After Lakes netted a goal on a free kick six minutes into the game, neither team found the back of the net until River Ridge’s Charles O’Friel squeezed the ball past the goalkeeper in the 61st minute to knot the score.

Lakes nailed the go-ahead goal just before the clock reached the final two minutes, and the Lancers added a dagger moments later in stoppage time, which was extended due to a Hawk player and a River Ridge coach receiving red cards in the 55th minute.

“The boys played well in the first half and created some chances but just couldn’t find the net,” River Ridge head coach Daniel Arevalo said. “After the reds, the players played with more intensity. We took risks and were super aggressive going forward, and we got tired playing a player down. Proud of how we competed. When the boys high press, keep the ball, play simple and with belief, I know we can compete against anyone.”

River Ridge (0-11-1, 0-6-0 Puget Sound League) will host Peninsula (3-7-0, 2-4-0 Puget Sound League) at South Sound Stadium Tuesday night.
