It took no time for River Ridge freshman Kinsley Phillips to adjust to the varsity level.
Phillips notched two goals in her debut to lead the Hawks to a 3-1 home victory over Tumwater in their season opener Thursday night. She opened the scoring in the first half before Tumwater’s Brielle Clark answered later in the half for her second goal of the season. She is responsible for both of the T-Birds’ goals through their first two games.
The Hawks held the Thunderbirds off the scoreboard in the second half, while Emily Schelling and Phillips broke the game open with goals.
River Ridge (1-0) will look to sweep the Tumwater schools when it hosts Black Hills Tuesday, Sept. 8 at Nisqually Middle School. Tumwater (0-1-1) returns home Saturday, Sept. 5 to face Steilacoom.
