Rochester drops road contest to Aberdeen

The Rochester boys basketball team fell behind early against Aberdeen Thursday night, but offensive shortcomings in the first and third quarter hurt the Warriors’ comeback hopes in a 57-39 loss.

Aberdeen took a 19-7 lead after the first quarter, and while Rochester chipped away with a 15-6 spurt in the second quarter, the Bobcats put the game away with a 23-6 third quarter.

Freshman Clayton Knutson had another impressive game for the Warriors with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Tyson Canales scored nine, Emmitt Mancuso tallied eight, and Le’Shawn Hines recorded six.

“The rough first quarter was mainly due to us forgetting which color jersey we were wearing,” Rochester head coach Caleb Sells said. “Once we cleaned that up, we played a great second quarter, only being down three at the half. In the third quarter, we just had too many lapses in defense. I felt like we executed our stuff on offense better than we have.”

Rochester (0-8) gets a rematch with Centralia Friday night in the Hub City, one week after the Tigers defeated the Warriors 52-33 in Rochester.
