Tayden Martin and Ethan Rodriguez rebounded from their previous outings on the mound to each toss complete games, helping the Warriors sweep the Eagles 12-2 and 3-0 at home on Monday night.
It keeps Rochester unbeaten in the 1A Evergreen League and it will get the chance to be 9-0 when the two sides meet again on Friday night. Martin worked around six hits plus four walks in Game 1 to throw 95 pitches and record four strikeouts.
The Warriors (9-2, 8-0 Evergreen) provided run support with a five-run third, four-run fifth and a Simon Barth RBI single in the sixth to end the game early. They used four straight walks to take the lead for good in the third, finishing with 10 in the opener.
Tyler Huston was the lone Rochester hitter to record two hits and two RBIs while Barth, Rodriguez and Wyatt Dahl all had one hit and one RBI. Three batters were plunked and four notched a stolen base.
Rodriguez, the Idaho football recruit, struck out nine Eagles and allowed just three hits in Game 2. Rochester scored on an error in the second, a wild pitch in the fifth and an RBI single from Dahl in the sixth. Dahl and Easton Singleton each recorded two hits in the nightcap.
“I thought we did a good job of executing offensively and putting pressure on them,” Warriors head coach Brad Quarnstrom said. “Another couple of good team wins.”
