Rochester suffered its first league loss of the season on Friday, as the Warriors gave up a flurry of runs late in a 14-7 road loss against Elma.
The Eagles got on the board first with a pair in the bottom of the opening frame, but the Warriors scored once in the second and third to tie the game at two.
Elma responded with another run of its own in the bottom of the third, but it really broke things open with a five-spot in the fourth that made it 8-2.
Rochester battled back across the next two innings, scoring five runs of its own to get back within two at 9-7 entering the bottom of the sixth, but another five Elma runs put the game out of reach before the final frame.
Ethan Rodriguez went 1 for 3, drove in three runs, and scored another, while Owen Driver collected two hits, drove in a run, and scored twice. Easton Singleton, Wyatt Dahl, and Ruger Culp also drove in a run apiece.
“Our pitchers didn’t have great command tonight, they hit it when they needed to, and we didn’t,” Rochester coach Brad Quarnstrom said. “We made a few defensive miscues that cost us. Baseball is a funny game where the better team doesn’t always win. We gotta bounce back quick.”
The Warriors (9-3, 8-1 1A Evergreen) won’t have to wait long for that chance, as they’ll head south to take on Ridgefield in a non-league matchup on Saturday morning.
