Rochester tops Ilwaco for second straight blowout victory

Just like Rochester did earlier in the week against Chief Leschi, the Warriors took the lead early and never looked back against Ilwaco on Thursday, rolling to an 8-0 blowout victory.

Aiden Villanueva opened the scoring in the sixth minute and added another before the halftime whistle. He also scored two goals in the second half to finish with four, and he also tacked on two assists.

Anthony Garcia added a brace, and both Eduardo Herrera and Daniel Walter pitched in goals of their own.

Rochester coach Matt Ashton said that he was able to get some of his junior varsity players into the match, and the entire team was able to focus on some of the fundamentals in a live setting.

“Getting the early lead allowed us to work in passing combinations and make sure our defensive shape was good,” Ashton said. “We are hitting our stride, but we know next week that we have three games that will be hard.”

Next week will include trips to Forks and Montesano, but first, the Warriors (2-2, 2-1 1A Evergreen) will host Hoquiam on Monday.

“We have a few things to take care of before Monday,” Ashton said. “But I am sure we will do that.”
