The Saint Martin’s men’s basketball team rebounded from a two-game losing streak by defeating Western Oregon on the road Saturday night.

The skid was the first Saint Martin’s had endured all season and directly followed a school-record 14-game winning streak. On Saturday, the Saints played a tight first half with Western Oregon, breaking an 11-11 tie early in the half with a 10-3 lead fueled by Patrick Kilfoil.

Both teams exchanged leads throughout the remainder of the half, but the Saints maintained a 35-32 advantage at halftime.

Saint Martin’s opened the floodgates in the second half. After leading 44-42 with over 12 minutes remaining, the Saints used a 12-2 run to push ahead by 12 in a six-minute span. Overall, Saint Martin’s outscored the Wolves 39-23 in the second half and shot just under 61% from the field in the final 20 minutes.

Kilfoil led the Saints with 20 points for his second game with 20 or more points this season. He shot an efficient 7 of 9 from the field and 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Diego Trejo-Delgado supplied 19 points and six rebounds, while Pablo Navarro recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Anthony Simo and Kaden Hansen also finished in double figures with 10 points apiece.

Saint Martin’s (18-4, 10-2 GNAC) will head to Burnaby, British Columbia, to face Simon Fraser Thursday night. The Saints will return home on Feb. 19 when they welcome Northwest Nazarene.
