The Saint Martin’s men’s soccer team clashed with Western Washington for 85 scoreless minutes in its GNAC opener in Lacey Thursday afternoon.
But in the 85th minute, the Vikings stormed in front on a penalty kick goal by Edgar Serrano as WWU prevailed 1-0.
Both teams recorded 12 shots, while WWU held a 6-5 advantage in the first half. Lukas Wexler and Jackson Rotondo each recorded a shot on goal in the first half, while goalkeeper Connor Leistiko saved a shot on goal.
Saint Martin’s couldn’t find an equalizer in the final five minutes as the Saints saw a shot off target, a corner kick and a shot on goal misfire. Leistiko finished with six saves for the Saints.
Saint Martin’s (4-4-1, 0-1-0 GNAC) will return home Saturday afternoon to face Simon Fraser.
