Six-run fourth inning carries North Thurston to non-league win over Enumclaw

North Thurston only needed one inning’s worth of runs to defeat Enumclaw 6-2 in a non-league contest Friday.

The Rams put up all six of their runs in the fourth inning. Each of the first four batters reached base for North Thurston, the fourth coming on a bases-loaded walk for Grady Wright to score the game’s first run.

Jack Bowser brought home two runs on a single with the bases loaded. The Rams then rallied with two outs as Ethan Shaefer’s RBI single and Kole French’s two-run double capped off the outstanding inning in which four of North Thurston’s five hits were recorded.

“We did not take good at bats early in the game, but we made some adjustments and strung some good at bats together,” North Thurston head coach Joe Meggs said. “Jack Bowser had a huge hit with the bases loaded. We were not sharp overall today, but we played hard and found a way to get a win against a good team.”

Zach Albright lit it up on the mound, working six innings and striking out seven Hornets while allowing two runs on four hits and one walk. He didn’t surrender a hit until the fourth inning.

“Zach was able to mix pitches effectively and keep their hitters off balance,” Meggs said.

North Thurston (9-5, 6-4 Puget Sound League) has one more two-game series in the regular season, starting Tuesday, April 21 at Lakes (1-12, 1-10 Puget Sound League).
