The South Puget Sound Community College men’s basketball team cruised to an 82-59 road win against Grays Harbor College Saturday behind a balanced scoring effort.
The Clippers jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first five minutes of action, and after a spurt by the Chokers to climb back into the game, SPSCC’s Caleb Bowden and Nakalayah Fabello hit 3-pointers to extend its lead to 17, and the Clippers held a 40-26 advantage at halftime.
Ball movement and hot shooting from deep gave SPSCC a cushion in the first half, as the Clippers drilled five triples and dished out 11 assists on their 16 first-half field goals. Bowden and Jalen Hyppa took over in the second half, combining to score 22 of the Clippers’ 42 second-half points.
SPSCC shot a sizzling 62.3% from the field throughout the game, including 7 of 16 from 3-point range. The Clippers also dominated in the paint with 44 points, and they outrebounded Grays Harbor 36-22.
Bowden led all scorers with 17 points, while Jeremiah Lewis and Hyppa each collected 15. Jamaal Elliott tallied 12 points, six rebounds, six assists and a steal. Elijah Mack added 10 points, and Fabello scored nine.
SPSCC (17-5, 6-3 NWAC) gets four of its final five regular season games at home, starting with a home bout with Highline Wednesday night.
