SPSCC women win division opener against Tacoma

South Puget Sound Community College kept the Tacoma women’s team winless with 75-42 NWAC West Division victory over the Titans on Jan. 7.

Mia Martinez led the Clippers with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Brielle Nueku wasn’t that far behind, with 19 points.

SPSCC opened with a four-point lead in the first quarter and extended that to a 34-24 halftime advantage. The third quarter proved pivotal as the Clippers opened the second half with a 14-5 run. The offense finished the game off with 27 points in the fourth quarter.

The Clippers shot 45% from the field and had a busy night at the free-throw line, hitting 19 of 24 shots.



SPSCC also won the rebounding battle 37-24 and collected 12 steals.

Jerzy Tapusoa came off the bench to score 14 points and haul down six rebounds, while Dakota Carson added 10 points.

The Clippers improved to 10-5 overall. This was the division opener for SPSCC, which has the second-best overall record in the West.

SPSCC will hit the road for its next game against Highline on Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.
