The Tumwater and Black Hills boys wrestling teams went back-and-forth on Wednesday night in Tumwater, and a Finn Bracy win in the final match propelled the Thunderbirds to a 39-36 victory.
The two teams were tied at 36 going into the final match at 285, and Bracy earned an 8-4 victory by decision.
Tumwater opened the night with a forfeit victory at 106, but Black Hills won the next four matches to take a 21-6 lead.
Malakai Brown picked up a major decision victory at 113, Roberto Rivera-Jesus won via tech fall at 120, and Rashid Farah and Cash Boos picked up pins at 126 and 132.
The next two matches were split, with Tumwater’s Zane Cole pinning his opponent at 138 and Black Hills’ Caleb Stuckert also getting a pin at 144, but the following three matches all went Tumwater’s way.
Brandon Major (150), Zachary Warner (157), and Liam Hilliard (165) all picked up first-period pins, and just like that, the Thunderbirds led 30-27.
Coen Reaves (175) picked up a win via decision at 175 for the Wolves to even the scored at 30 before Black Hills’ Jarius Joph Oraya (190) and Tumwater’s Nathaniel Salas (215) both won via pin to set up the heavyweight showdown that decided the match.
