T-Birds top Wolves for third win of week

Tumwater finished a four-game week with a good performance on Friday, when the Thunderbirds topped Black Hills 10-3 on the road for their third victory of the week.

Tumwater scored once in the first, two in the second, and three in the third before tacking on another three in the fourth to go up 9-1.

Black Hills chipped away with a pair in the fifth, but got no closer than six and eventually ended up down seven after Tumwater tacked on an insurance run in the seventh.

Sophie Skillman and Cassandra McCartney led the way for Tumwater with two hits and two runs batted in each, while Megan Barrett and Chloe Johnson also had two hits and an RBI apiece.

Kiera Rich pitched the first two innings, allowing one hit and an earned run while walking one and striking out one, while Sarah Stevens struck out eight and walked two while allowing five hits and two unearned runs over the final five.

Makenna Oberman collected two hits, including a double, drew two walks, and scored twice, while Hannah O’Shurak hit a double of her own and drove in all three of Black Hills’ runs.

The Wolves (1-11, 1-8 2A EvCo) will host Shelton on Monday afternoon, while the Thunderbirds (8-5, 5-4 2A EvCo) will head to Chehalis to face W.F. West on Monday evening.
