The margin was much closer in the second meeting between the two Evergreen League foes, but the result was the same. The Eagles made enough shots late to fend off the Beavers 42-39 to spoil the latter’s senior night on Tuesday.

Tenino (5-14, 1-5 Evergreen) couldn’t get paint shots to fall and it ended up being costly. It took a two-point halftime lead thanks to 16 in the second quarter, but were outscored by six in the third and couldn’t complete the rally.

“We had our chances,” Beavers head coach Kirsi Gofinch said. “Played our butts off, came out and fought super hard. They gave it everything they had tonight.”

Kylie Gonia paced a balanced scoring night with 11 points while Charley Jones and Georgia Gore each added eight. Jones grabbed 12 rebounds and Chloe Grayless, Tenino’s lone senior, had five points and five boards.

The Beavers will take on Hoquiam on Friday night in their penultimate league game.
