The Beavers went into another cold spell at the plate, mustering just two hits to striking out 12 times in a 7-1 setback to the Grizzlies on Monday night at home.
Hoquiam starter Hallie Burgess carved up the Tenino (1-5, 0-4 Evergreen) lineup with plenty of curveballs and outside spots. Preslee Fisher and Chloe Grayless each had an extra base hit off Burgess, but that was all.
“Not a productive night at the plate,” Tenino head coach Chris Johnson said. “We have to make those adjustments. We’re still growing by leaps and bounds, which is a good thing.”
The Grizzlies turned a 1-0 cushion into 5-0 with a four-run third. The Beavers lone run came in the fourth by Fisher. They will battle Eatonville in a non-league tilt on Tuesday before a rematch with Hoquiam on Thursday.
