Tenino picked up a dominant win in the final game of its regular season on Friday, running away with a 21-4 victory over King’s Way Christian in Vancouver.
The Beavers scored four runs across the first two innings, took the lead with a four-run third, and blew the game open with an eye-popping 13 runs in the fifth inning.
“We just did not let off,” Tenino coach Chris Johnson said. “We made them pitch strikes, and when they did, we put them in play.”
Tamara Snodderly finished with four hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs, while Chloe Grayless added three hits and three RBIs.
Kylie Gonia added a pair of hits and three RBIs of her own, and Jaeleen Woodward added two hits and two RBIs while scoring four times.
Preslee Fisher also drove in two runs and scored three times, Macie Scharber knocked in two runs, and Katen Burkhardt added two hits and an RBI.
“I'm really happy with how the offense has come together the last couple of weeks,” Johnson said. “We’re seeing the ball really well right now, so that’s huge.”
Grayless pitched all five innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while walking two and striking out one.
Tenino (8-13) will now wait to learn its fate for the 1A District 1/4 Tournament. The Beavers will be one of the 12 teams competing, but the meeting to seed the 12 participants won’t take place until Sunday.
Johnson is hopeful that Friday’s performance will help the Beavers bump up a seed or two, but they are not expected to receive a top-four seed.
As a result, they’ll begin play in the first round of the tournament next Friday, May 15, at 9 a.m. at Fort Borst Park in Centralia.
“If we come out and do that, it will be a good game,” Johnson said. “They’re believing in themselves right now, so that’s a huge thing. We’re really excited about next week.”
