Thurston County declares hazardous weather advisory for July 21-22 due to high temps

Thurston County Public Health & Social Services is issuing a “Hazardous Weather” advisory for Tuesday, July 21, and Wednesday, July 22, to increase shelter-in-place efforts this week. 

The National Weather Service has a heat advisory in place from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 11 p.m. on Wednesday due to high temperatures in the foothills and valleys of Thurston and Lewis counties, including in the cities of Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, Grand Mound and Rochester. 

Olympia Mutual Aid Partners (OlyMAP) will be conducting outreach with emergency supplies to those without shelter. 

Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 96 degrees Fahrenheit and overnight lows of 60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

 Shelter guest entrance for Sergio’s Place is located at 3501 Mary Elder Rd NE. Walk-up entrance off Martin Way. Pets are welcome. Please call 360-706-2287 for more information.



The shelter’s regular hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. 

Interfaith Works will accept donations at Sergio’s Place during regularly scheduled hours. No parking is allowed on Martin Way.

Needed items include bottled water, sports drinks, sports drink mix, popsicles, non-perishable snacks, tarps, hats, summer clothing and sunscreen.
