The Thurston County Auditor’s Elections Division mailed over 150 Special Election ballots to military and overseas voters registered in the Rochester School District in Thurston and Lewis counties.
The counties signed an inter-local agreement to allow Thurston County to conduct the election in the small portion of the Rochester School District in Lewis County, the auditor’s office announced Friday.
The Rochester School District is running a capital levy for safety and critical infrastructure improvements. The excess levy needs a simple majority of 50% plus one vote to pass.
If passed, the proposal would allow the Rochester School District to collect $2,628,405 in 2027 and $2,783,747 in 2028, for the district's capital projects fund. The fund is used for the construction, modernization and remodeling of school facilities.
The estimated levy rate is $1 per $1,000 of assessed value.
Ballot envelopes must be signed and dated by election day or received via email or fax by 8 p.m. on election night.
For voters not in the military or overseas, ballots will be mailed April 8. Ballots must be postmarked by election day or received in a drop box by 8 p.m. on election night.
Military and overseas voters who have not received a ballot by Wednesday, April 8 should contact the Elections Division at 360-786-5408 or elections@co.thurston.wa.us for a replacement ballot.
