Timberline, Capital girls swim teams compete against Lakes

The Timberline and Capital girls swim and dive teams flocked to Timberline High School for a meet against Lakes Tuesday, Oct. 6, with the Blazers and Lakes competing separately in one competition and Capital and Lakes competing in another.

Timberline swept all three relay events, including setting a season-best in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 4 minutes, 13.11 seconds.

Timberline junior Layla Nau took home two victories on Tuesday, first in the 50-yard freestyle at a personal record of 27.39 seconds and then in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:02.02.

Timberline senior Kayla Lambiotte triumphed in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:10.45, and she took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a PR of 27.61 seconds. Blazers freshman Talia Larsen (third at 30.99 seconds), Capital senior Masha Olson (fourth at 31.36 seconds) and Capital freshman Julia Oestreich (fifth at 32.23 seconds) also PRed in the 50-yard freestyle.

Capital junior Tessa Nielsen finished in first place at 1:17.66 in the 100-yard butterfly, and her fourth-place swim in the 200-yard individual medley at 3:04.17 was enough for a PR and a league-qualifying time. 

Timberline freshman Nevaeh Lewis earned second place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:43.06, and she finished in second place in the 500-yard freestyle at 6:28.08. Also in the 500-yard freestyle, Timberline senior Lauren Bouwman set a new PR by 30 seconds at 7:15.99 to qualify for the league meet, along with Larsen, whose 14-second PR of 7:16.42 landed her a spot at leagues. Oestreich is also headed to leagues after placing fifth in the event at 7:24.74.



Timberline junior Brenna Ganey won the 200-yard freestyle at 2:27.37, and senior Grace Stucki earned her best time yet in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:33.14 to finish as the runner-up and punch her ticket to leagues.

Capital senior Amanda Tang took second in 1-meter diving with a final score of 92.

Timberline defeated Lakes in its match 108-69.

“Our meet was definitely one for the books. We had a ton of new league-qualifying times, and the girls continued to show big time drops across all their events,” Timberline head coach Caleb Hegel-Linggi said. “A bunch of new times and new events from kids across the board as we continue to push into the postseason. I am so proud of all the progress these girls have made through the season.”

Timberline will visit rival North Thurston on Thursday, Oct. 8, while Capital will head to Mount Tahoma.
