Timberline’s Jr. San Nicolas belted his third home run in his last four games and the Blazers made a late push, but Silas prevailed 5-4 Tuesday.
Silas jumped in front with a three-run first inning against Timberline starter Adrian Williams, and the scoring was halted until the sixth inning as both Williams and Rams starter Griffin Owen were locked in a pitchers’ duel.
Williams worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth before finishing his day with a 1-2-3 fight inning. He pitched five innings and allowed three runs, two of which were earned, on six hits and one walk while striking out five.
Timberline finally got to Owen in the sixth, as two errors allowed Caleb Bacon to score and Reid Ovist drove in Will Tennent with an RBI double. Silas’ Erik Lystra cranked a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth, and Anthony Turner tacked on an RBI single.
San Nicolas drilled a no-doubt, two-run home run over the left field fence in the seventh, flipping his bat as he ran the bases. Timberline’s rally, however, didn’t last much longer as a walk by Marley Gamble was the only other baserunner the Blazers got in the frame.
Timberline (7-10, 7-7 Puget Sound League) sits in a tie for third place with Capital, which owns the tiebreaker over the Blazers. Timberline will visit Bellarmine (8-8, 8-6 PSL) Wednesday.
