The North Thurston softball team, which has officially qualified for the district tournament for the second straight spring, crushed Mount Tahoma 26-6 in five innings Monday.
North Thurston, which started senior Maya Cannon in the circle on senior night, had to fight back from a 5-0 deficit. A two-out rally scored four runs for the Rams in the bottom of the first.
Syriahs Trolson entered the circle with one out and a five-run deficit in the first and dominated. She struck out eight of the first nine batters she faced, including six who swung through the third strike.
By the time she allowed her first hit in the bottom of the third, the Rams led 23-5. North Thurston scored nine runs in the second inning and 10 in the third. Trolson finished with nine strikeouts in 4.2 innings, allowing just one hit and one unearned run.
“Syri was solid as always in the circle. She just gets stronger and stronger as the game goes,” North Thurston head coach Sam Harding said.
Isabella Haagen drove in three runs on a 4-for-5 day at the plate, scoring four times and knocking three doubles. Saihdee Trolson went 3 for 4 with a team-high four RBIs and hit two doubles and a triple. Alyvia Belton and Abigail McBride each drove in three runs, while Paige Guyer and Lylah Hoy each had two RBIs and two hits.
“Izzy started off hot today at the plate and didn’t let up all day, and Saihdee was crushing the ball today,” Harding said. “The team has been playing with relaxed confidence, and it’s fun to watch them not get rattled at any situation that doesn’t go their way. I’m really proud of how they all come together for a one-team cause.”
North Thurston (12-7, 9-6 Puget Sound League) will close the regular season at Capital (3-14, 3-12 PSL) Tuesday before opening the district tournament as the No. 9 seed against No. 8 seed Enumclaw Friday at the RAC.
