The returning state-placing Thunderbirds jumped out to an early cushion and took Monday’s non-league game over in the middle three frames to beat the Warriors 12-3 at Steven J. Memorial Park.
Southpaw Sarah Stevens didn’t allow an earned run and notched 11 strikeouts for Tumwater (1-0), which struggled defensively with four errors. The offense rose to the occasion with four runs in both the fourth and sixth innings.
Megan Barrett broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run single in the fourth and Brielle Womach capped the frame with a sacrifice fly. RBI base hits from Womach and Kiera Rich plus two crossing home on an error highlighted the sixth.
Barrett notched three hits and scored three times while Womach drove in three runs and stole two bases. Four T-Birds recorded extra base hits as they continue their non-league schedule with a game versus Steilacoom on Thursday.
