Tumwater (12-6) has not lost to a 2A foe all season and will get one of its toughest tests yet when it battles Columbia River on Saturday morning in the semifinals. It’s a rematch from last year’s district title game, won by the Rapids in three.
Meanwhile Black Hills, after a pigtail victory earlier in the week, couldn’t generate enough momentum and went 0-2 to end its season. The Wolves were swept by Columbia River in the quarterfinals and then lost a four-set match to Washougal in an elimination game.
It caps the record for Black Hills at 12-8 and five seniors played their final match, led by the duo of Lilly Worthen and Tyler Venable. Taryn Kelly, Elliana Doney and Jaya Tummala also were seniors in the program.
Down in the 1B District 4 tournament, Pe Ell lost to Coastal runners-up Ocosta in four sets to see its season fall two wins away from the state tournament. The Trojans (9-12) say goodbye to a five-member senior class of star Karli Phelps, Ruby Magruder, Chaisee Land, Randi Belanger and Kassidy Hayes.
