The Tumwater football team improved to 4-0 on Friday night, handling Woodland on the road in a 47-7 victory.
The Thunderbirds took a 13-0 lead in the first frame and extended that lead to 33-0 by the halftime break before adding one touchdown in both the third and fourth quarters.
Tyler Briscoe ran for 87 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries, while Grady Wall added 61 yards and a touchdown on five carries. Alex Stewart made the most of his lone carry of the day, taking it 16 yards for a touchdown.
Jake Reid finished his day 7 for 8 with 102 yards and two touchdown passes through the air. Ethan Bello caught three passes for 44 yards and two touchdowns, and Gabe Millard added a 14-yard touchdown reception and a passing touchdown of his own.
Defensively, Hans Bergford had a sack, a tackle for loss, and six tackles, and Gavin Kaikkonen had six tackles and a TFL of his own.
Millard added an interception, and Caleb Ndiritu recovered a fumble. Tumwater didn’t allow Woodland to move the ball at all, as the Beavers didn’t get a first down until after halftime.
The Thunderbirds have had penalty issues throughout the first chunk of the season, but Garrow was pleased with the performance in that aspect as well on Friday.
“We played a much cleaner game,” Tumwater coach William Garrow said. “We moved the ball effectively on the ground and in the air. The defense did a very nice job containing Woodland’s explosive playmakers and gave our offense a bunch of short fields in the first half. Proud of the way some of our younger players stepped up and competed in a varsity game as well, getting a lot of reps and executing their roles.”
Tumwater (4-0) will be on the road again next Friday, Oct. 2, to face Mark Morris.
