Warriors fall to Kodiaks, still searching for first win

The margins are slimming down, but for the Rochester High School boys basketball team, it hasn’t resulted in an elusive victory yet. Columbia Adventist broke a tie ballgame with a 9-2 spree to claim a 58-51 non-league win in Rochester.

At one point down by eight, the Warriors (0-12) tied the game at 49 before the last Kodiaks run sealed it. Yet head coach Caleb Sells remained impressed by his group’s resolve.

“They keep fighting, they keep battling,” Sells stated. “These kids, the experience they’ve gained is invaluable. We as coaches see it, and I hope the coaches see it. It’s resulting in a lot better basketball, and it’s a lot more fun to coach and play.”

Tyson Canales led the way with 17 points for Rochester and Emmitt Mancuso chipped in 13. It will return to 1A Evergreen League play on Tuesday at Montesano.
