The W.F. West boys golf team pulled out a narrow win at Tumwater Valley on Wednesday, topping Tumwater and Black Hills at a three-team EvCo meeting.

The Bearcats posted a team score of 420, just two strokes better than Tumwater, which took second with a 422. Black Hills finished in third at 463.

Jayce Ayers led the way for W.F. West, posting a 4-over 76.

“Jayce has really stepped up his game from last year,” W.F. West coach Matt Klovdahl said. “He played a lot of competition golf this summer, has gained a lot of confidence, and has become a very steady player. I look forward to him continuing to improve throughout the season.”

Every other Bearcat, including the sixth-best finisher that didn’t count towards the total team score, shot under 90 for the first time this season.

Kobe Arevalo carded an 85, Layton Griffith and Emmett Goodman both shot an 86, Blake Hampton added an 87, and Gage Wiens ended the afternoon with an 88.

“We’ve seen steady improvement from a number of players as they are contributing each match,” Klovdahl said. “It was really exciting to see that.”

Tumwater was led by Liam Gustafson, who shot an 83, while Easton Konrad and Jack Center-Howden both carded 84s. Bradley Gilson was only one shot back at 85, and Luke Center-Howden was only one shot further back at 86.

Kendall Roberson led the Wolves with an 83, and Landon Echols also had a nice afternoon with an 84. Gavin Sugarman carded a 92, Brody Rice added a 97, and Kodey Miller rounded out the Black Hills scorecard with a 107.

All three teams will head to Alderbrook on Monday for the annual Sibley Scramble.
