Owen Whitaker’s season-high 23 points was one of the lone highlights for the Tenino boys basketball team as the Beavers lost 70-53 to Forks on the road Friday night.
The senior, who knocked down five 3-pointers, hadn’t scored more than 11 points in a game this season until Friday, and it was just his second game in double figures all season.
Tenino led 17-10 after the first quarter, but Forks caught fire in the second quarter and jumped in front 34-32 at halftime. The Beavers ran out of gas in the second half and could only muster 13 points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth as the Spartans pulled away.
Jeremiah McKague added 10 points, while Brayden Bennett logged eight. Henry Czuleger and Sawyer Noonan each tacked on six points, with Czuleger dishing out seven assists. Kellan Johnson pulled down seven rebounds.
Tenino (2-9) will host Onalaska (2-5, 2-4 Central 2B League) in its final non-league contest before hitting the road to face Montesano next Tuesday in its Evergreen opener.
