A 44-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision in Olympia on Saturday.
The woman’s name has not been released pending notification of her next of kin, the Thurston County Coroner’s Office confirmed Monday.
A medical examination to determine her cause of death was scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the crash in the 800 block of South Bay Road Northeast, at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, according to Sheriff Derek Sanders.
At the time, the incident was reported as a “head-on collision with serious injuries,” Sanders said in a social media post.
“Sadly, one of the occupants has passed away,” Sanders wrote at about 12:12 p.m. on Saturday.
At the time, he advised the public that there would be “extended road closures” in the area while a traffic unit reconstructed the collision and began an investigation.
The road has since reopened, but that investigation was still ongoing as of Monday afternoon.
