The Saint Martin’s men’s soccer team is 2-0 for the first time in its 20-year history after shutting out Westmont 1-0 in Burnaby, British Columbia, Saturday afternoon.

For the first time since 2019 and the second time in team history, the Saints are unbeaten through their first two games, as they started 1-0-1 seven years ago.

Saint Martin’s held a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal in a scoreless first half, with Corbin Herrera leading the way with three shots. In the second half, the Saints tallied four shot attempts before Westmont’s first shot of the half in the 66th minute when goalkeeper Connor Leistiko saved a shot on goal, one of his five saves.

Junior Jonathan Wright found the back of the net off a cross in the 77th minute, with Herrera and Kodyn Flynn providing assists, for the decisive goal. It’s the first career game-winning goal for Wright.

Saint Martin’s (2-0) will travel to California next week to face Stanislaus State on Thursday, Sept. 3 and Chico State on Saturday, Sept. 5.
