Vincent Torres returned a kickoff 92 yards to the house in the first quarter, but that was all the offense the Yelm football team could find in a 33-7 season-opening loss to Heritage Friday night.

Torres’ touchdown directly answered a first-quarter touchdown run by Heritage, and the Timberwolves added a 60-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter.

Heritage added one touchdown in each of the next three quarters to pull away 33-7. The Timberwolves outrushed the Tornados 175-46 and outgained them 228-127. Quarterback Aiden Youckton completed five of 10 passes for 38 yards, while Zechariah Johnson recorded 37 yards on two-for-2 passing. Ronald Russell led Yelm with 52 yards on nine carries, and he recorded 10 tackles on defense.

This was the first game for Yelm since head coach Tutu Tamaalevea was placed on administrative leave to start the week due to an “isolated incident,” according to the Yelm High School administrative staff.

Yelm (0-1) will head to the Lincoln Bowl next Friday, Sept. 11 to face the Lincoln Abes and Stanford quarterback commit Sione Kaho.
