Yelm woman accused of DUI, vehicular assault after Thursday morning crash

A Yelm woman is facing possible DUI and vehicular assault charges following a crash on Yelm Highway SE early Thursday morning. 

Megan Marie Oakes, 44, was reportedly driving a black 2017 GMC Terrain westbound on Ye;m Highway SE when she attempted to pass a bronze 2015 Mazda 3 driven by Kaleb B. Marshall, 24, of Graham. 

Oakes struck the Mazda at milepost 12, causing it to leave the roadway and crash into a tree stump, according to a Washington State Patrol (WSP) incident report. 

The GMC stopped on the right shoulder.  

WSP was dispatched to the crash at approximately 5:17 a.m. on Jan. 8. 

Marshall was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital for medical treatment. 

Oakes was booked into the Thurston County Jail. 

WSP has determined that drugs or alcohol were involved, and the cause of the crash is under investigation. 

In an updated incident report released Friday morning, WSP reported that the road was blocked for a total of three hours and 49 minutes.
