Peninsula’s strength at the plate overpowered the youthful Capital softball team as the Cougars were shut out 21-0 in five innings Wednesday in Gig Harbor.
The Cougars recorded just two hits, while Peninsula boomed three home runs and nine doubles. The Seahawks stormed in front with a 10-run first inning, highlighted by two home runs and six doubles. Abby Hoyt, a candidate for Puget Sound League MVP, fired a two-run home run, and Paige Jones sprinted around the bases for an inside-the-park homer.
Peninsula added eight runs in the second inning and three in the third. Capital’s Ashlynn O’Hara and Elizabeth Sloppy each knocked in a single.
Capital (1-10, 1-8 Puget Sound League) will face Lakes (0-9, 0-9 PSL) in Lakewood Friday afternoon.
