The Capital boys tennis team’s penultimate regular season match resulted in a 4-1 home win over River Ridge on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Capital triumphed in all three doubles matches, headlined by the first doubles team of Torin Biswas and Brooks Bezanson conquering Lucas Manter and Wyatt Riecke 6-2, 6-0. Logan Oestreich and Stephen Belgan beat Shane Nguyen and Alex Gross by that same score in second doubles.

In third doubles, Nicky Iannuccilli and Trevor Nichols topped Matthew Yi and Jared Park 6-1, 6-2. Capital’s Eli Horton defeated Nick Dumitrescu in second singles 6-0, 6-4.

The longest match of the afternoon was a first-singles showdown between Camden Marshall of Capital and Cole Von Rueden of River Ridge. Von Rueden outlasted Marshall in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

Capital celebrated its seniors in its final home match of the regular season. According to Capital head coach Tom Alongi, River Ridge’s coaches allowed all of the Cougars to get a match by making some of their athletes play twice.

Capital will visit Lakes on Thursday, Oct. 15, while River Ridge will head to Timberline that same afternoon in the regular season finale. The Puget Sound League tournament will follow, starting Oct. 22 at Lincoln High School.

“We aren’t one of the top teams in the league, but we like how our team is looking heading into the league tournament,” Alongi said. “Our guys are capable athletes and love to compete. We’re looking forward to the tournament.”
