Capital swept by Peninsula

An eight-run third inning by Peninsula was too much for the Capital baseball team to rally back from, and the Cougars fell 12-2 at Sehmel Homestead Park in Gig Harbor Wednesday.

Capital’s loss followed a 20-7 defeat to Peninsula Tuesday.

The Seahawks opened Wednesday’s game with a run off Cougars starter Lane Nixon in the first inning, and Capital answered in the top of the third on a two-out RBI double by Brooks Barker. However, in the bottom of the third, Peninsula ripped eight runs on six hits and two walks. Capital could only muster up one more run, coming in the fifth inning on another RBI for Barker, who finished with two of the Cougars’ five hits.

Capital (6-10, 6-7 Puget Sound League) will visit crosstown rival Olympia (14-3, 10-3 South Puget Sound League) for a non-league contest Saturday afternoon.
