Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland claimed victory Tuesday night in her bid for re-election.
Strickland, a Democrat representing Washington State Congressional District 10 since 2021, had 64.37% of the vote, 106,481 ballots, in her favor as of 8:22 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The initial tallies showed challenger Chris D. Chung, a Republican, trailing with 35.05%, 57.982 votes.
Washington State Congressional District 10 covers most of Thurston County and part of Pierce County, including the cities of Olympia and Tacoma.
“I’m grateful to continue representing the South Sound in Washington, D.C.,” Strickland said in an official statement at 8:40 p.m. on election night. “Thank you to all the volunteers and voters, and to everyone who shared our vision for a safer, more affordable, and more just nation.
The American people have rejected Trump’s chaos, cruelty, and corruption.”
Strickland continued: “Voters want leaders who will fight for a more affordable America - and take decisive action to lower the cost of food, gas, healthcare, housing and utilities. They want accountability.”
Strickland vowed to “stay focused on delivering results, not making headlines.”
Her priorities will “continue to be lowering costs, securing fair wages and benefits for workers, and protecting the sacred right to vote in every zip code,” she said.
“Please know that I will always fight for our communities, and that my office and I are here to serve you.”
