The Evergreen men’s soccer team’s undefeated streak came to a close Saturday as the Geoducks lost to Southern Oregon 2-1.
This loss was preceded by a 0-0 draw at home against Oregon Tech Friday in the Geoducks’ Cascade Collegiate Conference opener. Evergreen outshot Oregon Tech 12-9 in that match but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Against Southern Oregon, Evergreen struck first in the 69th minute on a 15-yard goal by Angel Sandoval off an assist by Noah Blake. It was the first goal of the season for Sandoval and Blake’s first assist.
But the Raiders responded with two goals in the final 10 minutes, first by Ariel De Dios Cruz in the 81st minute and then in the 84th minute by Jonathan Gaspar.
Saturday’s match was plagued with cautions, with a total of 10 yellow cards and two red cards. In total, there were 36 fouls called.
Evergreen (2-1-3, 0-1-1 CCC) will travel to Billings, Montana, next week to face Rocky Mountain College on Thursday, Sept. 24.
