MultiCare Health System broke ground Wednesday, Nov. 4, on a new primary care clinic in Grand Mound.
The clinic is expected to open in about a year.
Once finished, the nearly 10,000-square-foot facility will have 28 exam rooms and accommodate up to 16 new primary care providers.
“Today we put a shovel in the ground, but in the months ahead, this site will be a place where people come for answers, reassurance, prevention, healing, and relationships with healthcare providers that they know and trust,” said MultiCare Health System Capital Medical Center President Will Callicoat. “I'm incredibly proud of what this represents, and grateful to everyone who brought us to this moment.”
The new clinic is more than just an investment in MultiCare’s infrastructure, Callicoat said — it's about fulfilling a promise MultiCare made nearly six years ago, when it acquired Capital Medical Center in Olympia.
“That commitment included expanding access to care, and that was part of the promise to the broader community,” said Callicoat.
When MultiCare acquired Capital Medical Center at the end of 2020, the healthcare organization operated 18 clinics in Thurston County.
MultiCare has since opened a new integrated women’s primary care clinic in Olympia and a neighborhood emergency department in Lacey, as well as a new hybrid operating room for cardiac care, a comprehensive breast center and an ambulatory surgery center at Capital Medical Center.
MultiCare is also expanding behavioral health services and started offering hospice services.
MultiCare has additionally expanded its number of primary care providers from six to 46.
All of MultiCare’s investments into expanding care in Thurston County have been in response to the needs expressed by the community, Callicoat said.
“Showing up for our community just means listening to the needs of the community and being able to respond to that, it also means making healthcare easier to reach, closer to home, and more connected to the lives of the people that we're entrusted to serve,” he said.
MultiCare is a locally governed, nonprofit health system dedicated to serving communities across the Pacific Northwest.
The organization’s healthcare system currently includes more than 300 primary, urgent, pediatric and specialty care locations across Washington, Idaho and Oregon, as well as 18 hospitals.
