A man was shot in the leg near the “Jungle” homeless encampment in Olympia on Friday.
The Olympia Police Department is investigating.
Officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of Martin Way at about noon on Friday, March 6, for a report of an assault, according to Olympia Police Lt. Paul Lower.
Upon arrival, officers found one adult male with a gunshot wound to the leg.
He was transported to Providence St. Peter’s Hospital, where medical personnel determined his injury is not life threatening.
Multiple witnesses reported that the victim was arguing with two unidentified male subjects before they heard a possible gunshot and saw the two males fleeing the area, according to Lower.
While officers canvassed the surrounding forest and conducted a K9 track on Friday, Lower said, “We’re pretty certain they have gone from the area.”
Martin Way was briefly closed Friday afternoon while investigators processed the scene, but the roadway was back open as of 4 p.m.
The Olympia Police Department asks anyone with relevant information about the incident or the suspects to contact detectives at 360-753-8300.
